Your questions answered
At Home Grown Harvesting, we get asked lots of great questions about our veggie boxes, so we thought we’d pop the most common ones all in one place. If you’re curious about where your food comes from and how Homegrown works, you’re in the right spot. If there’s anything else you’re wondering, give James a call on 0431 708 129 — he loves a chat!
Yeah mate! - they are absolutely grown by us. All of our veggies are grown right here on our land in East Gippsland. We grow everything from seedlings in our super groovy greenhouse (which was built from scratch using scrap), then transfer them out into our garden beds. We’ve worked really hard to make sure our soil is healthy and nutritious, and that’s where everything grows until it’s ready to harvest. Then it’s harvested by us, packed by us, and delivered by us. We’re a small, family-run business, so yes - everything is grown and done here by our family.
Home Grown Harvesting is all about seasonal produce. We grow what grows well at that time of year, and that’s what goes into your box. Whatever is ready and thriving in the garden is what you’ll receive. This means your box changes with the seasons, and you get veggies at their best, not forced or shipped in from far away.
It’s a bit of a surprise - and we think that’s part of the fun. Think of it as a little weekly gift from the garden. Rather than choosing individual items, your box is filled with what’s ready to harvest that week. If you like eating seasonally and getting inspired by what’s growing, you’ll love the Home Grown box.
You can order weekly, and we love that for you. We don’t currently offer subscriptions through the website, but if you’re interested in something more long-term with weekly deliveries, just give us a buzz and we can have a chat about it.
At the moment, we deliver to Bairnsdale and surrounding areas. You can pop your postcode into the website to see if you’re one of the lucky ones in our delivery zone. Unfortunately, it’s only us doing all the growing and delivering, so we can only travel so far at this stage.
No - we always use natural methods, and we never use chemicals or sprays.
We aim to keep everything as close to organic as possible (although we’re not certified). We believe in growing food the way nature intended, which means sometimes you might find a little nibble on your leafy greens or a tiny insect making a surprise appearance. That’s just part of growing food naturally, and we’re okay with that if it means keeping chemicals out of our garden and off your food.
Super fresh - most of the items harvested and delivered on the same day fresh.
We harvest your veggies and deliver them to you on the very same day, so they haven’t been sitting in storage or travelling for days. It’s about as fresh as it gets.
We strongly prefer people to be home when their box is delivered, where possible.
Our boxes are packed in cardboard, not refrigerated containers, so being left out in the sun can damage produce that’s just been freshly harvested. If needed, we can leave your box in a shady spot, but we highly recommend choosing a delivery time when you’ll be home so your veggies stay as fresh and beautiful as possible.
No - we don’t offer add-ons at this stage. Home Grown Harvesting is all about what’s growing in our garden, and that’s what we provide. In the future, we might look at things like eggs or other extras, but for now, we’re keeping it simple and focused on fresh, homegrown veggies.
The best way to support Home Grown Harvesting (besides ordering a box, of course!) is to spread the word. Tell your friends, tell your neighbours, tell anyone who loves fresh, local food. We truly believe word of mouth is the best kind of advertising, and it helps our little family business more than you know.
